The photobook Pomegranates Grow in Winter delves into the living conditions of young women in Central Asian Kyrgyzstan, a place close to photographer Anna-Tia Buss's heart, having spent part of her childhood there. This photographic documentation offers a distinctive perspective on the post-Soviet generation of Kyrgyz women, combining photographs, interviews, and collages to provide an insightful portrayal of their lives. Through a blend of diverse interviews and a participatory approach, the project beautifully captures the diversity of individual characters and personalities among Kyrgyz women, shaped by their circumstances and their relentless pursuit of independence and recognition.
